Did some more work this weekend.

Got the transmission installed (mostly) Still need to mount up the spring plates to the axles, and yes, I know we need to add some swing axle boots! Also for the sharp eye's out there, we still need to put the sprint plate retainers on.

Also up for this week, we pulled the body from the back to start evaluating the situation there. It's not real pretty, and I don't know if it'll every be pretty! Here's some of the pics:

One of my helpers for the day, you can also spot the bus hanging out in the back of the trailer :)

You can see that there's some pretty serious work to be done on the left side, it's been wacked pretty good some time in the past.

Wow! Where does the time go???

Finally getting back into the swing of things around here, putting the finishing touches on the little motor for the 56. Breanna wants to have her car done in a flat black and lime green colors, which includes the engine. I know, I know, the tin should all be painted in a semi flat black, but for this little motor, I'm not too concerned.

Here's some pics of where we're at (bad camera phone pics!)

So the other day on the way to work the little blue bug just didn't want to get up and go. Thinking to myself as I limped the little car into the parking lot, I but I just had a couple of pushrods pop off. Well, looking into it after work ( with work cloths on, in my work place parking lot) I popped the valve cover off and low and behold, a couple of pushrods were loose, buuuut, what's this? The rocker stud seemed loose, really really loose. Yep, broken stud on one end, and the other one was pulled right out of the head. Time for a new head. But I wanted to get the car back together ASAP, and not wanting to jack around with it either, I put the word out on the local message board. Soon I had a lead. $200 bucks later I had what appeared to be a decent FI motor, bone stock, but unknown if it ran, but it turned over. A day later, I stripped all of the FI stuff off, and all the sensors, and misc stuff, and bolted on some regular dual port intakes and a 31pict carb with an adapter. I stuffed it into the car, and WHAM! It started right up, and idled great! What a relief, a  good running STOCK motor back in the bug.

Next on the List PDF Print E-mail

Ok, so next on the list for Breanna's car is some minor things. First up we need to find a set for torsion leaves for the front beam. The previous owner thought it would be a good idea to lower the car by removing some of the leaves from just one of the tubes. This is just a bad idea all the way around. Not only are the remaining leaves under much more stress, this also leaves less "meat" for the grub screws in the trailing arms to hold on to, and you don't really want to find out what happens if you were to lose one of the trailing arms while on the road.

After we're able to get ahold of some leaves, then we'll finish installing the rest of the suspension parts on the front end. Trailing arms, spindles, backing plates, brakes, and drums, steering box, and tie rods.

Moving to the rear of the car we'll be installing new spring plate bushings, and finish bolting up the spring plates. Tranny will be next on the list. We'll be installing new alxe boots, and some new gaskets for the nose cone. New tranny mounts will be in order, then into the car she will go. From there we'll finish up the rear braking system.

After all that we should have a roller on our hands! Cool
